Irish Healthcare Awards Shortlist 2024: ‘Different for Everyone’

Parkinson’s Ireland is delighted to announce that it’s ‘Different For Everyone’ awareness campaign has been shortlisted for the Irish Healthcare Awards, in the Patient Education Project of the Year category.

‘Different for Everyone’ ran over Parkinson’s Awareness Month in April 2024 and focussed on the over 40 different symptoms in Parkinson’s Disease. When most people think of Parkinson’s Disease, they think of tremors, stiffness or slowness of movement. However, it can also affect thinking, behaviour and mood. These changes can bring their own challenges and frustrations as they often impact the quality of life. Each person is different, and many people do not develop each symptom.

The campaign included national newspaper, national radio, and Spotify advertising, in addition to out of home, and social media advertising.

Speaking about the news, CEO of Parkinson’s Ireland Shane O’Brien commented: “We are delighted with this news. The idea for this project originated from a survey circulated to our service users. It was clear to us that the fact that there are over 40 different symptoms in Parkinson’s is not well understood and the perception of Parkinson’s differs from the reality of how it can affect everyone differently. Like many other neurological conditions, there can be a stigma associated with Parkinson’s. We want to reduce this through education. Raising awareness is an important part of what we do.

Ruth Delaney (Communications Coordinator), Lisa Wynne (Parkinson’s Nurse Specialist) and I, worked closely with the creative team at Havas to develop the campaign and we were very pleased with the results. I would like also to thank the campaign sponsors: AbbVie, Clonmel Healthcare and Bial.”

The overall winner will be announced on the 4th of December.
